Numbering the pages of a report, contract, or manuscript makes it easy to reference and keeps a printout in order. pdfcosmos stamps the numbers entirely in your browser, so your document is never uploaded.

Choose the position (top or bottom, and left, center, or right), the format (a plain number, “Page 1”, “1 of N”, or “Page 1 of N”) and the starting number, so you can continue from an earlier document. How to add page numbers to a PDF

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. Page numbers are added entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. Your files never leave your device. You can confirm it by opening your browser's Network tab while numbering: no file data is sent.
Can I number more than one PDF at once?
Yes. Add up to 30 PDFs and the same settings are applied to each. One file downloads as a numbered PDF. Two or more download together as a single ZIP, each file numbered independently.
Which number formats can I choose?
Four: a plain number (1), “Page 1”, “1 of N”, and “Page 1 of N”. You can also set the starting number, for example beginning at 5 to continue from an earlier document.
Can I control where the number appears and how it looks?
Yes. Pick the vertical edge (top or bottom) and horizontal placement (left, center, or right), fine-tune the margins, and set the font (Helvetica, Times New Roman, or Courier), size, and color.
Can I rotate a PDF before numbering it?
Yes. Each file card has a rotate button (↻) that turns its pages 90° clockwise. Tap again for 180° or 270°. The page number is added to the rotated page and still reads upright, so it always lands at the corner you chose (this also applies to files that were already rotated or scanned landscape).
Is Add Page Numbers free?
Yes, it's completely free to use, with no sign-up and nothing to install.
