Whether you need a single section out of a long report or want to break one big PDF into smaller documents, pdfcosmos splits it entirely on your device. The file is never uploaded, so a contract, a scanned ID, or a set of records stays private while you pull out exactly the pages you want.

How to split a PDF

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. Splitting happens entirely in your browser using WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device. You can confirm it in your browser's Network tab.
How do I choose which pages to extract?
Type page numbers and ranges separated by commas, for example “1-3, 8, 11-end”. Use a hyphen for a range and the word “end” (or “z”) for the last page. The pages come out in the order you list them.
What's the difference between the modes?
“Extract pages” gives you one PDF containing just the pages you pick. “Custom ranges” turns each range you list (e.g. 1-5, 8, 11-17) into its own separate PDF. “Single pages” turns every page into its own PDF. “Every N pages” breaks the document into equal chunks. When more than one file is produced, they download together as a ZIP.
Why did I get a ZIP file?
When a split produces more than one PDF, the files are bundled into a single ZIP so you get one download. Extracting a single range gives you a plain PDF instead.
Is there a limit to how many files one split can create?
Yes. Because everything runs in your browser, a single split can produce up to 200 files at once. If a choice would exceed that, the tool tells you and waits. Split a smaller range at a time, or use “Every N pages” with a larger chunk size.
Is the quality or content changed?
No. Splitting only copies the selected pages into new PDFs. The page content is untouched, so there's no loss of quality.
Is Split PDF free?
