Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. Rendering happens locally: your browser draws each PDF page and saves it as a PNG on your device, with no server involved. The Network tab in DevTools stays quiet the whole time.
Should I use PNG or JPG?
PNG is lossless: text, diagrams, and line art stay razor-sharp with no compression artefacts, at a larger file size. JPG makes smaller files and suits pages that are mostly photos or scans. Try our PDF to JPG tool for that.
What do the resolution options mean?
DPI sets the pixel density each page is drawn at. For screen reading, 72 DPI keeps PNGs small. 150 DPI balances sharpness and file size for most uses. Choose 300 DPI when you need print-grade detail and don't mind bigger files.
Do the PNGs have a transparent background?
No. Each page is rendered on a solid white background, just like paper, so the images look the same as the original document.
Can I convert only some pages?
Yes. Pick “First page”, “Last page”, or switch to “Custom range” and list what you need, like 2, 6-9, 14-end. Hyphens mark runs of pages, commas separate entries, and “end” stands for the final page.
Why did I get a ZIP file?
When your selection produces more than one image, the PNGs are bundled into a single ZIP so you get one download. Converting a single page gives you a plain PNG instead.
Is there a limit to how many pages I can convert at once?
Yes. A single run can emit up to 100 PNGs, since all rendering happens in your browser's memory. For longer documents, work range by range, or drop the DPI to keep memory use down.
