Get the numbers out of a PDF and into an editable spreadsheet (.xlsx, .xls, or .ods) without uploading a financial report or invoice to a server. pdfcosmos extracts the tables entirely in your browser, so your file stays on your device.

It's a best-effort table extraction: the tool reads the PDF's text layer and splits each line into cells where it detects wide gaps, so clean, ruled tables usually come through well, while merged headers or tightly-spaced columns can split imperfectly. Choose one worksheet tab per PDF page or all pages in one, and convert up to 30 files at once. Scanned PDFs have no text to read (that needs OCR). For a plain comma-separated file, use PDF to CSV.

How to convert PDF to Excel

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. The table/text is extracted and the spreadsheet is built entirely in your browser. Your PDF never leaves your device. You can confirm it in your browser's Network tab.
Which spreadsheet formats can I export to?
Excel Workbook (.xlsx), Excel 97-2003 (.xls), and OpenDocument Spreadsheet (.ods), all generated locally in your browser. If you just want a plain comma-separated file, use our dedicated PDF to CSV tool instead.
Will the columns line up exactly like my PDF?
It's a best-effort table extraction. The tool reads the PDF's text layer and splits each line into cells where it detects wide gaps between values, so clean, ruled tables usually come through well. Merged headers, wrapped multi-line cells, or tightly-spaced columns can split imperfectly, because a PDF stores text and positions, not a real table grid.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
No. Scanned pages are images with no text layer, so there's nothing to extract (that would need OCR). If a PDF has no selectable text, you'll get a clear message instead of an empty file.
How are multiple pages handled?
You choose with the “Worksheet tabs” setting. “One tab per PDF page” puts each page on its own tab, named “Page 1”, “Page 2”, and so on. “All pages in one tab” stacks every page into a single sheet, with a blank row between pages. Either way, nothing is dropped.
Can I convert several PDFs at once?
Yes. Add up to 30 PDFs. One file downloads as a spreadsheet, and two or more download together as a single ZIP.
