Remove Annotations clears a PDF's entire annotation layer in one click: comments and sticky notes, text highlights and underlines, freehand ink, shapes and stamps, links, and interactive form-field widgets — all of them, from every page. It's the fast way to hand over a clean copy of a document that's been marked up in review, without the reviewers' notes and highlights riding along.

The markup is genuinely deleted, not just hidden: each annotation object and its appearance stream is removed from the file, so comment text and link targets don't linger in the bytes, and the interactive form is dropped too. Your visible pages, text, and images are untouched — text you'd highlighted stays exactly as it is; only the highlight over it goes. Clean one PDF or up to 30 at once (a ZIP for several), entirely in your browser with pdf-lib. If you only want to strip clickable links and keep the rest, use Remove Links instead.

How to remove annotations from a PDF

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. Annotations are removed entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. Your files never leave your device. You can confirm it in your browser's Network tab: no file data is sent.
What counts as an annotation here?
Everything in a page's annotation layer: comments and sticky notes, text highlights and underlines, freehand ink, shapes and stamps, links, and interactive form-field widgets. All of them are removed from every page.
Does it delete the annotation data, or just hide it?
It deletes it. Each annotation object and its appearance stream is removed from the file (not just unlinked) so the comment text, link targets, and markup don't linger in the bytes, and the document's interactive form is dropped too.
Will it change the visible page content?
No. Only the annotation layer is removed. Your pages, text, and images are untouched. Text you highlighted stays. Only the highlight over it goes. To remove visible content, you'd need to redact or edit the page instead.
How is this different from Remove Links?
Remove Annotations strips every annotation type at once. Remove Links is the targeted version. It removes only clickable links and leaves comments, highlights, and form fields in place.
Can I clean several PDFs at once?
