Convert PDF to GIF, free and entirely in your browser

Save PDF pages as GIF images when something in your workflow expects that specific format — an older content system, a chat or ticketing tool that previews GIFs inline, or a piece of software that simply won't take anything else. pdfcosmos renders each page and builds the GIF on your own device, so the document is never uploaded.

Pick the resolution (72 DPI for screens, 150 for a solid default, 300 for print-sharp) and convert all pages, just the first or last, or a custom range like 1-3, 8, 11-end. One page downloads as a .gif file and several arrive together as a ZIP. Worth knowing before you start: GIF stores at most 256 colours per image, so text, line art, charts and diagrams come out clean while photographs and gradients can band slightly. There's no quality slider here because the palette, not compression, sets the limit — for photographic pages, PDF to PNG or PDF to JPG will look better.

  • Great for flat graphics

Text, logos, charts and line art stay crisp inside GIF's 256-colour palette.

  • Every page a still image

Each page becomes its own GIF — no animation, no surprises.

  • Convert any pages

All pages, the first or last, or a custom range like 1-3, 8, 11-end.

  • Nothing is uploaded

Pages are rendered and encoded in your browser. No file data leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. The conversion (rendering pages and encoding the GIFs) runs completely on your machine in the browser. No PDF bytes are transmitted, as the Network tab will show.
What is a GIF file?
GIF (Graphics Interchange Format) is a widely-supported image format limited to 256 colours per image. It's handy for simple graphics, logos, and diagrams, and for embedding in chats, docs, and older tools that expect GIF.
Will the colours look exactly right?
GIF can only hold 256 colours, so each page's colours are reduced to a best-fit palette. Text, line art, charts, and diagrams look great. Full-colour photos or gradients can show slight banding. For photographic pages, PDF to PNG or PDF to JPG will look better.
Are the GIFs animated?
No. Each page becomes its own still GIF image. If you convert several pages, they download together as a ZIP.
What do the resolution options mean?
Resolution (DPI) sets how many pixels each page becomes. 72 DPI is smallest (screen), 150 DPI is a good standard, and 300 DPI is sharpest for printing.
Can I convert only some pages?
Yes. Choose “First page”, “Last page”, or “Custom range” and type page numbers and ranges separated by commas, for example “1-3, 8, 11-end”. Use a hyphen for a range and the word “end” for the last page.
Why did I get a ZIP file?
When your selection produces more than one image, the GIFs are bundled into a single ZIP so you get one download. Converting a single page gives you a plain .gif file instead.
Is there a limit to how many pages I can convert at once?
Yes. Because the whole job runs in your browser's memory, a single conversion produces up to 100 images. For a longer document, convert a page range at a time, or lower the resolution.
Is PDF to GIF free?
Yes, it's completely free to use, with no sign-up and nothing to install.
