Need to reuse the words from a PDF? pdfcosmos pulls the text into an editable Word document (.docx or .docm) right in your browser, so a report, a letter, or a legal draft is never uploaded to a conversion server. It's built for editing and reusing text, not for reproducing a pixel-perfect copy of the original layout.

The conversion extracts the PDF's selectable text. It doesn't rebuild columns, tables, images, or the exact page design. A layout-perfect result would require uploading your file, which we don't do. Scanned PDFs have no text layer to extract (that needs OCR elsewhere), so if there's no selectable text you'll get a clear message instead of an empty file.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. The text is extracted and the Word file is built entirely in your browser. Your PDF never leaves your device. You can confirm it in your browser's Network tab.
Will the Word document look exactly like my PDF?
No. This extracts the text into an editable Word document. It does not reproduce the PDF's exact layout, columns, tables, or images. It's ideal when you need to edit or reuse the text, not for a pixel-perfect copy. A layout-perfect PDF-to-Word would require uploading to a conversion server, which we don't do.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
No. Scanned pages are images with no text layer, so there's nothing to extract (that would need OCR). If a PDF has no selectable text, you'll get a clear message instead of an empty file.
What's the difference between .docx and .docm?
.docx is the standard Word format. .docm is the macro-enabled format. The file produced here contains no macros, and is just saved in the macro-enabled container for workflows that require .docm.
Can I convert several PDFs at once?
