Remove PDF metadata — anonymize who made a PDF, with what, and when

Every PDF quietly carries metadata about its origin: the author's name, the software it was made and produced with, the title and keywords, and creation and modification dates. Remove PDF Metadata strips all of it in one click — from both the classic Document Info and the hidden XMP metadata that many tools leave behind — so the file no longer says who created it, with what, or when. It's the fast way to anonymize a document before you send or publish it.

This removes metadata only — your pages, text, images, bookmarks, and form fields are completely untouched, so it's the same document without its identifying fingerprint. It doesn't black out visible content, though: a name or letterhead printed on the page stays visible (redact for that). Clean one PDF or up to 30 at once, all in your browser, so your files never leave your device. To change specific values rather than strip them, use Edit PDF Metadata; to also remove JavaScript, attachments, and annotations, use Sanitize PDF.

  • Doc Info and hidden XMP

Strips both metadata stores, including the XMP copy many tools leave behind.

  • Content stays intact

Pages, text, images, bookmarks, and form fields are untouched — only metadata goes.

  • Clean up to 30 at once

Anonymize many PDFs in one click; they download together as a ZIP.

  • Nothing is uploaded

Metadata is removed in your browser with pdf-lib. Your files never leave your device.

How to remove metadata from a PDF

  1. Add your PDF(s)

  2. Remove the metadata

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. Metadata is removed entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. Your files never leave your device. You can confirm it in your browser's Network tab: no file data is sent.
What metadata does this remove?
The document properties: title, author, subject, keywords, creator, the producing software, and creation/modification dates, from both the classic Document Info and the hidden XMP metadata, which many tools leave behind. This is how you anonymize who made a PDF, with what, and when.
Does this “anonymize” my PDF completely?
It removes the hidden metadata that identifies the document's origin, which is what most people mean by anonymizing a PDF. It does not black out visible content. A name, signature, or letterhead printed on the page stays visible. To hide visible content, you'd need to redact it.
Will it change the pages or content?
No. Only the metadata is removed. Your pages, text, images, bookmarks, and form fields are untouched. It's the same document, just without its identifying metadata.
Can I clean several PDFs at once?
Yes. Add up to 30 PDFs. One file downloads as a cleaned PDF (with its original name), and two or more download together as a single ZIP.
Is it free?
Yes, it's completely free to use, with no sign-up and nothing to install.
