Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. Your PDF is drawn to bitmaps right on your device. The file never crosses the network. Open your browser's Network tab while converting and you'll see no upload traffic.
What is a BMP file?
BMP (Windows Bitmap) is an uncompressed image format that stores every pixel exactly, with no quality loss. Older Windows software and some imaging or signage tools expect BMP specifically.
Why are BMP files so large?
Because BMP is uncompressed, its files are much bigger than a JPG or PNG of the same page. That's normal for the format. If size matters more than an exact-pixel bitmap, PDF to PNG or PDF to JPG will be far smaller.
What do the resolution options mean?
Resolution (DPI) sets how many pixels each page becomes. 72 DPI is smallest (screen), 150 DPI is a good standard, and 300 DPI is sharpest for printing, but higher DPI makes an uncompressed BMP much larger.
Can I convert only some pages?
Yes. Convert all pages, just the first or last, or a custom range like “1-3, 8, 11-end”. One page downloads as a single BMP. Several download together as a ZIP.
Should I use BMP, PNG, or TIFF?
All three are lossless, so the choice is about what receives the file. BMP is the plainest and largest, and is what older Windows software and some imaging or signage tools ask for by name. PNG is lossless too but compressed, so it is far smaller and the better everyday pick. TIFF is the archival and scanning standard and can hold every page in one file. Why did I get a ZIP file?
When your selection produces more than one image, the BMP files are bundled into a single ZIP so you get one download. Converting a single page gives you a plain .bmp file instead.
Is there a limit to how many pages I can convert at once?
Yes. Because the whole job runs in your browser's memory, a single conversion produces up to 100 images. BMP is uncompressed and therefore heavy, so for a longer document convert a page range at a time, or lower the resolution.
