Remove blank pages from a PDF — with a review step, never a surprise

Scanners love to add blank pages — the back of a single-sided sheet, a separator, an empty last page. Remove Blank Pages finds them for you: every page is rendered and its ink coverage measured (how much of it isn't white), so even a scanned blank, which is really a white image, is caught. It tolerates off-white paper and scanner speckle, so a faintly grey page still reads as blank.

Crucially, nothing is deleted by surprise. The pages it thinks are blank are shown in a review grid, pre-checked for removal — you glance through, uncheck anything you want to keep (a page with just a faint page number, say), and only then confirm. Detection runs in your browser with pdf.js and the removal with qpdf, so your file never leaves your device. It handles PDFs up to 300 pages; to delete specific pages by number instead, use Delete Pages.

  • Catches scanned blanks

Measures ink coverage, so even a white-image scanned blank is detected.

  • Nothing deleted by surprise

Blank pages are only suggested and pre-checked; you confirm before anything is removed.

  • Tolerant detection

Off-white paper and scanner speckle still read as blank; faint content is left for you to judge.

  • Runs on your device

pdf.js detects and qpdf removes, in your browser. Your file never leaves it.

How to remove blank pages from a PDF

  1. Add your PDF

Click or drop a single PDF. Scanned documents are the common case.

  2. Review the blank pages

The tool scans every page and shows the ones that look blank, already checked for removal. Uncheck any you want to keep.

  3. Remove and download

Click “Remove blank pages”. Only the checked pages are deleted, all in your browser.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. Pages are scanned and removed entirely in your browser (pdfjs to detect, qpdf to remove). Your file never leaves your device. You can confirm it in your browser's Network tab.
How does it decide a page is blank?
Each page is rendered and its ink coverage measured (how much of it is not white). Near-empty pages (including scanned blanks, which are white images) are flagged. It tolerates off-white and scanner speckle, so faint paper still reads as blank.
Will it delete a page I wanted to keep?
Not without you. Flagged pages are only suggestions. They're shown for review, checked for removal, and nothing is deleted until you confirm. A page with just a faint page number may be flagged. Simply uncheck it to keep it.
It missed a page that looks blank to me.
A page with a faint watermark, a header/footer, or a light background isn't truly empty, so it isn't flagged. You can remove specific pages with the Delete Pages tool instead.
Is there a limit on the number of pages?
Scanning renders every page, so this tool handles PDFs up to 300 pages at once. For larger files, split them first, then remove blank pages from each part.
Can it scan a password-protected PDF?
No. Unlock it first (with the Unlock PDF tool), then remove blank pages.
Is Remove Blank Pages free?
Yes, it's completely free to use, with no sign-up and nothing to install.
