Edit PDF metadata — view and change a document's properties

Edit Metadata lets you see and change a PDF's document properties: its Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, and creation and modification dates. When you add a file, its current values are read and filled in automatically, so you can see exactly what the PDF says about itself and edit any field in place — correct an author name, set a proper title for search and library apps, or fix the keywords. Your changes are written back when you save.

The fields are the source of truth: empty one and save, and that property is cleared — including the hidden XMP copy some PDFs carry, so nothing identifying is left behind (dates can be changed but not removed). Everything is read and rewritten in your browser with pdf-lib, so your file and its details never leave your device. To strip every property at once instead of editing them, use Remove PDF Metadata; unlock a password-protected file first, since encrypted PDFs can't be read without the password.

  • Private by design

Read and rewritten in your browser with pdf-lib. Your file never leaves your device.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. The properties are read and updated entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. Your file never leaves your device. You can confirm it in your browser's Network tab: no file data is sent.
Does it show the PDF's current details?
Yes. When you add a PDF, its existing Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator, Producer, and Creation/Modification dates are read and filled in, so you can see and edit them in place.
How do I clear a property?
Empty the text field and save. The fields are the source of truth, so a blank field clears that property, including the hidden XMP copy some PDFs carry (so it isn't left behind). (Dates can be changed but not removed.)
What are Creator vs Producer?
“Creator” is usually the app the document was authored in; “Producer” is the app that wrote the PDF. You can set both to whatever you like.
Can it edit a password-protected PDF?
No. Unlock it first (with the Unlock PDF tool), then edit its details. Encrypted files can't be read without the password.
Is Edit Metadata free?
Yes, it's completely free to use, with no sign-up and nothing to install.
