Mark up any PDF right in your browser. Add text boxes, draw or write by hand, drop in an image or logo, add shapes and arrows, and highlight what matters. Then download. pdfcosmos does all of this on your device, so a contract, form, or scan is never uploaded.

Links are real links. Place a link box, resize it over the text or area you want to be clickable, and it is saved as a live PDF link that points to a web address or another page. It works in any PDF reader. A visible underline is drawn by default so the link is easy to spot, and you can turn it off to keep the page looking untouched. Everything else you add is drawn onto the page.

Page fixes are here too. Rotate, duplicate, or delete the page you are on without leaving the editor. To reorder pages, insert another PDF, or add a blank page, use the dedicated tools (Organize Pages, Insert Pages, and Add Blank Page), because those are whole document jobs that work better in a page grid.

This editor adds your own content on top of the page, so it works even on a flat scan with no text layer. It does not change the text that is already in the PDF, because a PDF is not a word processor. To change some wording, use the Replace tool to cover it and type over it, or use Redact PDF to black it out for good. Your edits are saved onto the page when you download.

You can also make a PDF fillable. Add real form fields — text boxes, checkboxes, and dropdowns — name them, and mark them required if needed. Unlike everything else you place, these stay interactive in the saved PDF, so anyone can fill them in later in any PDF reader. To fill a form that already has fields, use Fill PDF Forms instead.

How to edit a PDF

  1. Add your PDF

    Click “Select PDF”, or drag one file into the upload area. Any PDF works, even a flat scan.

  2. Make your edits

    Pick a tool such as text, shape, highlight, whiteout, or link, then click the page where you want it. Draw, image, and signature open a panel first. You can drag or resize anything you place. To make some text clickable, resize a link box over it. Move between pages using the page rail.

  3. Fix the pages

    Rotate, duplicate, or delete the page you are on using the page buttons in the toolbar. To reorder pages, insert another PDF, or add a blank page, use Organize Pages, Insert Pages, or Add Blank Page.

  4. Download

    Click Save. Your edits are drawn onto the page and the PDF downloads. Nothing is uploaded.

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. Your PDF is opened and edited entirely inside your browser. The file never leaves your device. You can check this in your browser's Network tab, where you will see that no file data is sent.
What can I do with the PDF editor?
You can add text boxes and choose the font, size, and color, and make the text bold, italic, or underlined. You can also draw or write by hand, insert an image or logo, type a signature, add shapes like a rectangle, circle, line, or arrow, highlight, underline or strike through, white out content, drop a clickable link, add a stamp, and even add fillable form fields (text boxes, checkboxes, and dropdowns) that stay interactive. Place, drag, and resize each one anywhere on any page.
Can I edit the existing text that's already in the PDF?
Not the original text itself. A PDF is not a word processor, so the text already in it cannot be reliably changed in the browser, because that would need the exact fonts and layout. Instead you add your own text, shapes, images, and highlights on top. To replace a piece of text, use the Replace tool — it drops a white cover and a text box together over the old words so you can type your new text on top. To black out content for good, use Redact PDF.
Does it work on scanned PDFs?
Yes. Everything is placed freely on the page, so it works on any PDF, including a scanned or printed page with no text layer. You can even add your own fillable form fields to a flat page.
Can I make a PDF fillable (add form fields)?
Yes. Open the “Form fields” section and add a text field, checkbox, or dropdown, then drag it where you want it and give it a name (mark it required or read-only if you like). These stay interactive in the saved PDF, so anyone can fill them in later in any PDF reader. To fill in a form that already has fields instead, use the Fill PDF Forms tool.
Can I edit the changes again after downloading?
Your edits are saved onto the page, so they are not a separate layer you can click to change later. Keep your original file in case you need to redo an edit, and work on a copy.
Do you have tools for just one kind of edit?
Yes. If you only need one thing, use a focused tool such as Add Text, Draw on PDF, Add Image to PDF, Add Shapes to PDF, or Highlight PDF. To fill a form and sign it, use Fill & Sign PDF.
Can I add a clickable link?
Yes. Click “Link”, click the page to drop a link box, then drag or resize it over the text or area you want to be clickable. Give it a web address or a page in the same PDF. It is saved as a real link, so it works in any PDF reader. A visible underline is drawn by default so readers can see the link, and you can turn it off to keep the page looking untouched, which makes the link invisible. If links are all you need, the Add Links tool does just that.
Can I link a specific word or phrase?
You link an area, not a text selection. The editor does not touch the text already in the PDF, so there is nothing to select and attach a link to. Instead, place a link box and resize it to hug the words you want. That area becomes clickable, and with the underline on it reads just like a linked phrase. It behaves like a text link in any reader. It simply is not tied to the individual letters.
Can I rotate, delete, or duplicate pages while editing?
Yes. The toolbar has page buttons that act on the page you are viewing. You can rotate it 90°, duplicate it, or delete it. A deleted page stays visible in the page rail with a line through it until you download, so undo can bring it back. A duplicated page carries the same edits as the original. For whole document page work there are dedicated tools. Use Organize Pages to reorder or rearrange, Insert Pages to add another PDF's pages, and Add Blank Page.
Is the PDF editor free?
Yes, it is completely free to use, with no sign up and nothing to install.
