PDFs can carry whole files inside them — a spreadsheet embedded in a report, the files in a PDF “portfolio”, associated files linked to specific content, or file-attachment annotations pinned to a page. Remove Attachments strips all of them in one click, so you share only the document itself and not whatever was quietly bundled along with it. It's a common step before sending a PDF externally.

The attached data is genuinely deleted: each attachment's file spec and the embedded-file stream that holds its bytes are removed from the document, not just unlinked, so the content doesn't linger. How to remove attachments from a PDF

Frequently asked questions

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?
No. Attachments are removed entirely in your browser using pdf-lib. Your files never leave your device. You can confirm it in your browser's Network tab: no file data is sent.
What counts as an attachment?
Any file carried inside the PDF: files embedded in the document's attachments list, files linked to specific content (associated files), the files in a PDF “portfolio”, and file-attachment annotations pinned to a page. All of them are removed.
Does it delete the attached file's data, or just hide it?
It deletes it. Each attachment's file spec and the embedded-file stream that holds its bytes are removed from the document (not just unlinked) so the attached content doesn't linger in the file.
Can I save the attachments before removing them?
Yes. Use Extract Attachments to pull the embedded files out and download them first, then use this tool to strip them from the PDF.
Will it change the visible pages?
No. Only embedded files are removed. Your pages, text, and images are untouched. To also strip metadata and scripts, use Sanitize PDF.
Can I clean several PDFs at once?
