Grayscale PDF

Converting a PDF to grayscale turns every color on the page into a shade of gray — the black-and-white look most people want for cleaner printing, cheaper toner, or a more neutral document. To remove color reliably (including colors baked into images and vector graphics), each page is rendered and re-saved as a grayscale image, so the result looks exactly like your PDF but in gray tones. It is a true grayscale, not a harsh one-bit pure-black-or-white threshold.

Two things are worth knowing. Because pages become images, the text is no longer selectable afterwards, so keep your original if you need the live text. And the file is not always smaller: a scan usually shrinks, but a text-heavy page can grow, since crisp vector text is replaced by a page image — use Compress PDF if a smaller size is the goal.
